Some Uses Of Sand Bags For Canopies
The use of sand bags with canopies has been around for a long time. It is basically sand filled bags that are made mostly from hessian or plastic. Others are made from cotton duck or burlap which is woven cloth that is made from hemp, jute or flax fiber.
Sand bags are a cheap way to keep the canopy sturdy and easy to handle, therefore they can have a myriad of applications ranging from home building to environmental conservation. Sand filled bags can be used to do whatever structural duty if someone can get creative.
These canopy sand bags can also be used for flood control and are probably what most people associate with sand filled bags. In areas that are prone to floods, sandbags are stacked in an area to influence direction of flowing water. Bags used for flood control are normally painted with water proof solutions or made form plastic material. This makes them impermeable to water, hence lower risk of being carried by water.
Bags of sand are also associated with preventing soil erosion. Road cuttings can be lined with bags of sand to prevent the soil from collapsing in a mud slide or being swept away by water. Sand filled bags used this way are also propped up as mini gardens in their own right. This is by filling the bag their nutrient rich earth and seedlings. This way when it rains the seedlings sprouts into vegetation that further prevents soil erosion.
The military uses bags of sand to prop up their canopy shelters. They can also be used to create protective areas in the battle fields where a soldier can fire at an enemy in the cover of a sandbag shelter. They use this because sand bags have the ability to absorb huge impacts caused by explosions or munitions.
These canopy sand bags bags can be used wherever additional weight is needed, for example something as simple as holding down a traffic sign, or they can be used to balance levees.
