Purchasing the right canopy for a recreational vehicle depends largely on the climate where it will be used. The main purpose of most coverings is protection. As a result, the type of covering bought corresponds to the volatility of the weather in the area. Making the right choice from among the many RV canopies available requires reading their technical specifications carefully.

Many companies that sell RV canopies also have local contractors who will build them for you. This option is often less expensive than doing it yourself or hiring someone not associated with the company. Narrow your choices by selecting the appropriate size canopy. If buying a roof only model canopy, include room at the front and back to fully shelter the vehicle from rain and snow. Measurements listed on websites are generally not standard bottom of tire to top of roof heights. Be certain that you are using the same standards that the site is using.
